Als eerste bouwproducent in Nederland vervangt Xella de traditionele houten pallets door gerecyclede kunststof pallets. Deze zijn overal traceerbaar via een RFID-chip en steeds opnieuw te gebruiken via een retoursysteem met blockchaintechnologie.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Volgens een onderzoek van Hibin, de branchevereniging van alle bouwmaterialenhandelaren in Nederland, is de houten pallet de meest voorkomende herbruikbare primaire grondstof in bouwafval. Op de door Hibin georganiseerde initiatiefbijeenkomst Circulair Verpakken presenteerde Xella Nederland vandaag een duurzaam initiatief om dit probleem aan te pakken. Als eerste grote producent in de bouw vervangt het bedrijf houten pallets door recyclebare kunststof pallets. De pallets worden digitaal ingezameld op de bouwplaats en hergebruikt. Volgens Ad Blokker, programmamanager bij Hibin, vermindert dit de administratieve lasten van de bouwmaterialenhandel. \"Dat is winst, want ons proces hoeft niet te veranderen, de administratie neemt af en het eindresultaat is veel duurzamer.\"<\/p>\n<p><strong>Niet wachten op wetgeving<\/strong><br \/>\nUit onderzoek blijkt dat Xella jaarlijks 70 ton CO2-uitstoot bespaart door over te stappen op kunststof pallets. Volgens Jeroen van Heerwaarden, commercieel directeur van Xella, toont het bedrijf uit Vuren hiermee haar betrokkenheid bij duurzaamheid. \"We wachten niet op wetgeving of andere partijen om uit te vinden hoe we vooruitgang kunnen boeken. Bij Xella nemen we onze verantwoordelijkheid en lopen we voorop als het gaat om duurzaamheid en circulariteit. We investeren bewust in bijvoorbeeld transparante verpakkingsfolie met minimale bedrukking, maar nu ook in retourpallets van recyclebaar plastic.\"<\/p>\n<p><strong>Een grondig getest product<\/strong><br \/>\nDe productie en volledige logistiek van deze recyclebare plastic pallets worden beheerd door de Circular Plastic Alliance. De organisatie streeft naar een gesloten kringloop van duurzame verpakkingen. Daartoe hebben ze verschillende projectgroepen opgezet met bedrijven die dezelfde visie op zakendoen en duurzaamheid delen. In een daarvan nam Xella twee jaar geleden het initiatief om de haalbaarheid van de plastic pallet te onderzoeken. Volgens Johan Thans, directeur van de Circular Plastic Alliance, resulteerde dit in een plastic alternatief voor de traditionele houten verpakking. \"Samen met Xella hebben we verschillende pilotprogramma's gedraaid. Nu hebben we een volledig getest product dat gemakkelijk een belasting van 3.500 kg kan weerstaan, buiten kan blijven staan en bouwplaatsactiviteiten kan doorstaan. We hebben ook een uniek logistiek concept met retour- en kwaliteitscontrole, waardoor Xella continu pallets van hoge kwaliteit heeft die hergebruikt kunnen worden.\"<\/p>\n<p><strong>Winst<\/strong><br \/>\nOm de effectiviteit van de pallets in de praktijk te bewijzen, werkt Xella samen met enkele aannemers in een reeks proefprojecten. Daarna volgt een bredere uitrol in de markt. Van Heerwaarden: \"We zijn overtuigd van het product en de positieve impact ervan. In de pilot die we nu uitvoeren met de aannemers en later met onze afbouwers, zullen we laten zien dat bouwprocessen niet hoeven te veranderen, maar dat er duidelijke duurzame winst te behalen is. De stapelbare kunststof pallets nemen zestig procent minder ruimte in beslag, zijn een derde lichter in gewicht, gaan 3 tot 5 keer langer mee en dienen na hun volledige levenscyclus als grondstof voor een nieuwe pallet.
