Brancheplan Verpakkingen officially transferred to Circular Plastics Alliance
During the annual meeting on Wednesday, May 27, the transfer of Brancheplan Verpakkingen to Circular Plastics Alliance (CPA) was officially confirmed. This marks the beginning of a new phase focused on collaboration, innovation, and concrete chain projects.
Brancheplan Verpakkingen was launched in 2022 as an initiative by Techniek Nederland and FEDET (Federatie Elektrotechniek) to support companies in making packaging flows more sustainable. Over the past years, important progress has been made in knowledge sharing, awareness, and collaboration throughout the value chain.
With the transfer to CPA, the sector plan enters a new phase strongly focused on implementation and measurable impact. The shared ambition remains unchanged: working together towards less waste, lower CO₂ emissions, and a circular packaging chain.
From regulation to concrete action
With upcoming European legislation, including the PPWR (Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation), pressure on companies is increasing to reduce packaging, improve recyclability, and implement reuse on a larger scale.
CPA aims to support participants in translating these challenges into practical action through chain collaboration, innovative projects, and shared initiatives. The focus will be on:
- CO₂ and waste reduction
- reuse of materials
- high-quality recycling
- development of circular business models
Collaborating, launching pilots, and closing the loop
Although the first phase of Brancheplan Verpakkingen has been completed, the collective ambition remains. CPA will therefore continue to focus on:
- collaboration throughout the value chain
- developing practical pilot projects
- closing material and product loops
With sufficient participation, CPA aims to realise at least three to five chain pilots this year with measurable impact on CO₂ reduction, waste reduction, and material reuse.
In addition, active working groups will be established around concrete market challenges. These groups will work with dedicated leads, clear objectives, and defined timelines.
Four key themes for the coming period
The activities within Brancheplan Verpakkingen will focus on four central themes: Reusable packaging, Data in the chain, Load carriers, Closed-loop innovation.
Special thanks to Techniek Nederland and FEDET for laying the foundation over the past years. Through Brancheplan Verpakkingen, a strong network, valuable knowledge base, and collective movement have been built, creating the foundation to accelerate further. Together with the network, CPA will continue translating this foundation into concrete collaboration, practice-driven pilots, and action throughout the value chain.
