Since December 2024, we have been working intensively with Duotank to realize their sustainable ambitions. Duotank develops, produces and installs beer tank systems. They design and develop their own products and innovations and are a market leader in their niche segment. To keep the beer fresh, plastic bags are used and need to be replaced with each tank refill. These bags were recyclable. However, we have supported Duotank in achieving their mission of returning these bags into new material for Duotank innovations.

Phase 1: Material testing – Quality determines possibilities

To enable circularity, the material must meet high standards. Together with Duotank, we tested a batch of returned inliners to assess their processability, stability, and performance. Other tests were done to test the quality of the final re-granulate. This analysis laid the foundation for valuable applications in new products.

Phase 2: Set-up collection – Scaling-up the return stream

A closed-loop system starts with control over the return flow. We supported Duotank in setting up a structured and scalable collection system for used inliners. Integrating logistics, sorting, and partner engagement into one cohesive approach.

Phase 3: Product innovation – Getting the material back into Duotank products

Circular innovation only matters when materials return to their original purpose, in the basis. We guided Duotank in identifying high-value applications that are not only technically feasible but also add economic and ecological value to their product portfolio. A near to closed loop innovation, still in their own portfolio.

Phase 4: Collaboration – Within the Circular Plastics Alliance

No company can close the loop alone. Within the Circular Plastics Alliance, Duotank actively contributed to knowledge sharing, matchmaking, and system innovation. Together, we’re building a resilient ecosystem for circular plastics in the beer tank industry.
